Touché "Two and a Half Men", touché.
It's been a roller coaster of a season so far, to be sure. Fresh off the Thanksgiving break however, the show returned with another, dare I say it, solid, episode, and one that managed to fix several of the problems the show has been having of late.
First and foremost, always dear to my heart, Jake (Angus T. Jones) was on comedic fire. Sure, he was dumb as a box of rocks, but he was in top form, burning Alan(Jon Cryer) and Walden(Ashton Kutcher) left and right. Like I've been saying all along: Might as well use Jake when he's getting paid so much.
He didn't carry the epsiode alone though: Walden and Jake continued to have great chemistry, and even Walden had several of his own laughable moments, and finally seemed to stop trying to be as annoying as possible. Shocker.
Which probably was the reason this episode was the most effective: So little Alan. Alan has tried to carry the show for too long, and he just works better as a side man taking the brunt of the jokes. The last two weeks have been more Walden oriented, and I never thought I'd say it, but it's been for the better.
The plot picked up with Walden trying to convince Zoey (Sophie Winkleman) that he was over Bridget(Judy Greer), and to start off he finally signed his divorce papers. I never thought I'd see the day, and perhaps being free of the marital bonds lightened his spirit. Of course, he came on way too strong (a dinner date in his personal plane?) but after pulling a few strings with the board of the competitive prep school that Zoey was trying to get her daughter into, he seemed to have landed a new love.
Then, in a twist that I couldn't decide was shocking or not, Bridget showed up, begging Walden to take her back. I figured we were about to head to the same old Walden love struck puppy dog territory, and the painful cycle would rinse and repeat.
Instead, in a move that was welcomingly shocking, Walden told Bridget that he had moved on and that she was his past, and Zoey his future. Walden can grow up apparently! About freaking time.
Bridget then proceeded to pull a "House" and drove her car through Walden's house, before starting to stalk Walden from the porch. She ran into Rose(Melanie Lynskey), which makes me wonder if Bridget is going to stick around and fill the crazy ex-girlfriend role for Walden. Seeing Rose was a funny one time off thing, but I feel if the show really wants to liberate itself it needs to stop trying to cast new characters in the same roles as old ones.
Funny week though, and the show is batting 2-2 the past two episodes. Of course, I hope this isn't the best it can get in a post-Charlie world, but at least the show is starting to settle in on the right track.
Willie Clark has been playing games and spinning cds since the days of the Game Boy Color and cd players(both of which seem dinosaur old in today's world). To keep up with his musical and gaming ramblings, be sure to follow him on FB, and on Twitter, because if you can't beat them, join them.

Right on again. Finally a episode coming close to what we use to expect from Two and a Half Men. Maybe the writers finally realized that just Alan and Walden a show do not make. It is always better with full cast.

I am glad the episode wasn't "All Alan" for a change. This is about as different from the Sheen era as the show can be, but even I was pleasantly surprised at how watchable this episode was. I have not been a fan of the new season at all yet I enjoyed this episode! It is still a bit too much to swallow watching Alan give relationship advice...more like GIMME A BREAK! Overall, not bad!
