I have tasted the best cupcakes thus far and that would be Sugar Mountain Bake Shoppe the frosting is the best ever and it really makes the cupcake! I would only wish they would make smaller cupcakes so you could try more flavors at a time hey guys can you do that?? maybe have a dozens sampler that would rock!

Personally, I'd say the best cupcakes come from Dollop in Penfield. Way more customization, fun flavors and delicious cake and frosting! If you haven't tried it, you're missing out.

Best Cupcakes? - has to be ...DOLLOP. Create your own fillings and toppings - customize them and they leave no aftertaste- they are the best here and elsewhere. The frosting is not so sugary sweet, like others- for a real treat try my fave... cream chees frosting ! Wow!,

User Photo

In my opinion, the best cupcake is from the From Scratch Cakery. Both the cake AND the frosting have really good flavor. Plus it's not overly sugary. The Lemon Raspberry, and the Coffee cupcakes are the best in my opinion.

User Photo

Cindy said on Aug. 26, 2011 at 2:05pm

Best cupcakes are at Dolce Cupcakery in Pittsford. Cake is always moist, flavor variety is just right, not too many to choose from or to few, and the frosting is good enough to eat with a spoon. They aren't always the craziest flavor combinations, but they are always the best. I've been to SMBS, always enjoy it, but Dolce is better, hands down. It is, after all, a cupcake. It doesn't have to be complicated to be good.

Let the Cupcake comments begin: I've got to say that I have been to the shops mentioned on Cupcake Wars and have found that the ones I really love are here in Penfield, New York. of course it is Dollop. Please do yourself a favor and have a cupcake from them and then you decide which are the best. That's what I did - I let the taste, texture, flavor and freshness shape my opinion.
Dollop also does custom design - which is incredible to see.

I actually did a cupcake comparison. I was shopping for a cupcake vendor for an event. I went to five cupcake bakeries and bought four cupcakes at each place: vanilla with vanilla frosting, chocolate with chocolate frosting, red velvet, and one "exotic" cupcake. Hands down winner was Vanilla Swirl, with Dolce coming in a close second. Nothing to complain about the others, but their cake wasn't as moist, nor was the texture as good. I also think Vanilla Swirl is waaaay better than Georgetown Cupcakes of "DC Cupcake" fame. Now those are lame, ordinary cupcakes.

Rather than have all my friends post on here about how delicious the cupcakes are at From Scratch Cakery, I encourage everyone to find out personally. Take a cupcake tour and try all the places yourself. Then at least you will find put which one pleases your pallette. Scratch tastes different than mix. Once you decide which one you like, you will then that place can be your favorite.

We have discovered the BEST cupcake in the world!!! My family and I have been all over from here to New York City and we have to say that Sugar Mountain Bake Shoppe has the best cupcake, they are ALWAYS fresh and the frosting is the best, the filling is just delicious!!!! It also helps make a place when ALL of the people that work there really LOVE what they are doing!!!! They are ALWAYS greeting everyone with a smile and welcoming them into the shop and that makes a great business. We truly love this place and no matter what, we know your number1!!! Cupcakes: In fairness to all and to exclude friends/families/employees of the cupcake bakeries (if we can) I propose that we list from where we have tried the local cupcakes and vote for the ones we feel are the best and why we think they are the best. This is a local contest so please don't comapre with "Cupcake Wars" cupcakes. I'll start.
I have tried cupcakes from Wegmans,Sugar Mountain ,From Scratch Cakery,Vanilla Swirl ,Dolce Cupcakery and have determined that DOLLOP has the best cupcakes.
Here's why, there is no after taste , there is a lightness to them and you can customize them as yopu want them to be, they look so delicious and there are so many flavors - you can also have many choices of fillings . They are freshly tasting with top quality ingredients. No, I am not related to, or an employee or a friend of the owner - who makes everyone feel so welcome to her shop. This is just my honest opinion. Go to DOLLOP and see if you don't agree with me.

Just a note from City: We're so thrilled to see all the comments coming in, and people talking about their favorites. But please do not use this as a forum to trash other businesses that you don't care for. That's not the spirit of Best Of. It's about elevating the things that make Rochester great, not tearing down what you don't like.

This is a "Best Of Rochester" Contest, for a CITY paper . . . Not best of Penfield or Pittsford or Henrietta . . . Last I checked, those were suburbs, not located in the city limits. I would love for this contest to focus solely on the CITY of Rochester . . . There are so many amazing restaurants, bakeries, gift shops, etc, within the city limits . . . Most people I know that live in the suburbs hardly actually come into the city proper . . .

User Photo

Eric said on Sep. 02, 2011 at 2:30pm

Lila: That's a really interesting point. For the purposes of this survey, we're defining Rochester as Greater Rochester -- basically the city and all of Monroe County. A Best Of strictly adhering to the city limits sure is an interesting idea, though...

The best consignment shop in the area is TURNS on Empire Blvd. The clothes they carry are current fashion. They carry designer labels at affordable prices, beautiful jewelry, purses, shoes and home decor. Things are beautifully displayed and arranged so you feel like you walked into an upscale department store. The owners treat everyone as you would like to be treated - with a friendly smile and a willingness to help. They make shopping there a pleasant experience.

User Photo

Lila said on Sep. 04, 2011 at 6:08pm

Eric: Maybe in the future CITY can do a city limits "best of"? . . . It would be so great for a struggling city where most people with money hightail it to the 'burbs for a variety of reasons (education being #1, who can blame them) . . . but I think a contest featuring real city businesses could benefit the economy of Rochester, a city that really needs a boost!

Best Cup-Cakes - Sugar Mountain Bake Shoppe. I recently had the pleasure of enjoying a Sugar Mountain "Peach Cobbler" Cupcake. It was pure sin for the taste buds. The spiced cake was moist, and flavorful - its frost an invitation to decadence. Each time I indulge, I am amazed at the delicious wonders that Sugar Mountain provides for the palate. As a woman with a sweet-tooth, I have tried Vanilla Swirl, Dollop and other cup-cake eateries, and have not found anything that compares to Sugar Mountain.
