Touring on the back of his 2011 album, "Gold In the Shadow," Pittsburgh-born folk artist William Fitzsimmons brings his melodic, personal songs (and his signature beard) to the Water Street Music Hall on Wednesday, February 22. Fitzsimmons learned to play multiple instruments from his parents, both of whom are blind. His career in music started while Fitzsimmons was in graduate school, recording his first album during a summer break from school on home recording equipment. His songwriting is intensely personal and deeply confessional, honed while he was working as a mental-health therapist while completing his master's degree in counseling.
William Fitzsimmons performs Wednesday, February 22 at 8 p.m. at Water Street Music Hall, 204 N. Water St. $15. 325-5600, waterstreetmusic.com
