The MCC Board of Trustees meets this afternoon to discuss the college's lease at the Sibley Building.
This story has broadened in scope over the last few weeks. MCC's lease expired last December, and the college and WinnDevelopment - which has an option to buy the Sibley Building and is acting as the property manager - have so far failed to come to terms. MCC officials say Winn wants too much money for the lease. Mayor Tom Richards said recently that the city could forgive some of the outstanding debt on the Sibley Building, which might encourage Winn to cut MCC a better deal.
It's also been reported that MCC is exploring other options -an earlier move to the Kodak site, for instance - in case a lease agreement can't be reached.
And over the weekend, the Democrat and Chronicle reported that Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks has gotten involved in the lease dispute. The level of Brooks's involvement is not clear, however.
The MCC board meets today at 4:30 p.m., but will not discuss the lease in public, a spokesperson for the college says. - Christine Carrie Fien
On Tuesday, the New York League of Conservation Voters will release its environmental scorecard of Congress, including New York's representatives.
The rankings will be released just as the 2012 election season is starting. The League notes in a press release that the scorecard will be released "amidst some of the greatest attacks on clean energy and the environment in Congressional history."
Case in point: Republicans have been dead set on forcing through the Keystone XL pipeline. The Obama administration rejected the proposal for several reasons, though partly because Congressional Republicans forced the Obama administration to make a decision before it had completed its environmental review..
The rankings are based on legislative votes. In 2010, the topics included oil subsidies, renewable energy funding, air pollution, and lead paint protections.
The League has compiled its National Environmental Scorecard for every Congress since 1970. Jeremy Moule
