The menu at Good Luck is small but well conceived, and you'll want to indulge in a cocktail (like the Marguerite, a combination of Patron Silver and lemon-blueberry syrup and mint, served with squares of blueberry gelatin) while you consider your options. The produce is local, and the menu seasonal. A good example is the charcuterie plate. On it, Old Chatham camembert - so buttery that it melts on your tongue - shares space with a Hudson Valley ewe's blue, a, Hartmann's soppressata, speck (a delicious cold-smoked cousin of prosciutto served in translucent slices), and leona with peppercorns. These all jostle for space on the board with fruit and a thick, rich caponata redolent of garlic, a hint of citrus, red onions, and a dash of balsamic vinegar to boost the other flavors. Accompanied by a tiny glass of Dios Baco amontillado, an assortment of sweetmeats like these would make a romantic supper for two. The buttermilk-fried quail, sesame-crusted strip steak with wasabi, port, and tamari reduction, the goat cheese gnocchi, and house-made ricotta and pesto are other menu highlights.

For New Years Eve we went to Good Luck hoping to get a good meal in. We went early as being New Years it most likely would be crowded later in the evening. As we arrived at 6pm, we noticed a couple of people dining and a few more enjoying a drink at the bar. We asked the hostess to seat our party of 3 and we were denied. She said that "since it is a special holiday evening, we are only seating parties of 2. Feel free to eat at the bar, though." I looked at her with my puzzled look and looked into the empty dining room and told her "you really want to lose a $150 tab?" I figured with food and drinks for 3 people it would be about that. So we left and went to Social on East Ave and had a great meal. We told their Manager our story and they were dumbfounded how anyone would turn down a huge tab in todays economy. I guess we'll never know how the food is at Good Luck. I guess their name is appropriate for their guidelines.

Stopped at good luck for Valentine's Day. The pan seared yellow fin tuna was a delicious treat. Atmosphere was wonderful. In short, the staff put on a great experience on one of the busiest nights of the year. We'll definitely be back. I've been to all the Village Gate restaurants and this one is tops !

I went to Good Luck with very high expectations. I had heard about how different, and urban, and wonderful this place was and that is was not to be missed. In short - I wish I had missed it. I can say with complete honesty that the scallops I ate not were not only gritty and sandy, the taste made me gag. I have no idea if that was a one time thing or if their scallops are always like that, but I can't even think about them now without reliving the horrible flavor and texture. The other food we ate was not gag-worthy, but was certainly not anything to make note of. Just another Rochester restaurant to add to the list of let downs. The atmosphere was nice, but not nice enough to forgive the worst scallops, rather, the worst FOOD I have ever eaten!

Easily my favorite spot in Western NY. The menu is well crafted and built around the tastes of the season. Initial flaovors made me smile but the underlying flavors that came shortly after made me leave happy and wanting to come back for more. The atmosphere is relaxed and well lighted. The sound levels are are low consideruing the open air stly of dinning. I'll go back everytime I'm in town.
