Centrally perched at the West Main Street block in historic - and rising - Susan B Anthony neighborhood, MJ's serves Southern home cooking made from scratch. Lunch specials (11am - 1pm) include a meat entree (choose among meatloaf with rice, smothered or fried pork chop, baked chicken leg and thigh with dressing, or two wings) served with a muffin and two sides (yams, mashed potatoes, red beans, green beans, cole slaw, lima beans, collard greens or cabbage) and free iced tea. Other lunch and dinner specials rotate daily, featuring fried chicken, ox tails, bbq ribs, mac and cheese, and a Friday fish fry. Breakfast is also a specialty, featuring salmon patties topped with stewed tomato and onion, as well as the "Rochester omelet," made with ham, sautéed onions, and green pepper, served with grits and choice of bread. Catering is also available, with a larger-party room in back for gatherings and "Sunday Special" -style dinner. Homemade pies and cakes top it all off. Closed Sundays and Mondays.
